THE OTEROS

The wine of the Lion

Our wine region, protected by the DO León, is located at the foot of the Cantabrian mountains, in a land of clays and pebbles with a soft relief and well ventilated by winds from the N and NW. We are in the center of the Los Oteros region, with cold and humid winters with constant frosts and hot, dry summers that, combined with an altitude of 800 meters above sea level, provide uniqueness and nuances of their own to our wines.

Family winery in the hands of the third generation.

The winery

Underground cave excavated in the Quaternary clays of the Esla river basin. In this area, the great power of the clay layer has been used, for decades, for the construction of the presses and winery rooms. Hand tools are used for excavation, such as picks, which have left their mark on the walls.

Clays are the only material in its structure and thanks to the way they are deposited, they confer properties such as insulation from rain and a constant temperature regime. Some rooms are below 12 meters, this depth generates the most appropriate climate, with a linear temperature all year round, 12ºC, for the production and aging of our wines.
